POLLARD NITROSPORTS WINS AMA PINGEL THUNDER NATIONALS

Geoff Pollard Sets New Canadian Record in Victory over Larry McBride in Indianapolis

(August 5, 2009)Dorchester, ON – Geoff Pollard rode the Pollard Nitrosports Top Fuel Motorcycle, tuned by his brother Greg, to a new Canadian drag bike record and the winners circle at the AMA Pingel Thunder Nationals, Sunday August 2 at historic O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Ask anyone whose done it and they’ll tell you that winning at Indy is one of the greatest moments in their racing career. That stretches across every genre of racing from stock cars, to open wheel to drag racing. Winning at the Brickyard 400, the Indianapolis 500 or the U.S. Nationals becomes a crowing achievement for a professional race car driver in their particular discipline of motorsport. That is no different when it comes to AMA DragBike competition and the Pollard Nitrosports team.

The team had been fighting some early season gremlins at their first 2 events of the year, the AMA event at Martin, Michigan and an exhibition appearance at the IHRA MOPAR Canadian Nationals. “ This has been a huge learning curve for us, with the help of the McBride’s we have been working through our problems and to run our best time ever in the finals at Indy is very satisfying” said Crew Chief Greg Pollard. Geoff had a .079 reaction time in the final round en route to the event championship and a new Canadian drag bike record pass of 6.04 seconds at 232 miles per hour.

“I can’t believe we won Indy” said an elated Geoff Pollard. “This is the highlight of my career and given a disappointing performance at Grand Bend a couple weeks ago it makes it that much sweeter to reset the Canadian record in the process of winning the event and beating the baddest Top Fuel Motorcycle team on the planet. We have to say thanks to Larry, Steve and the McBride team, we know they hate to lose but they helped us out the entire weekend and we really appreciate it!”

The event win came after the team ran a conservative but promising 6.36 elapsed time in the first round, in a winning effort over Nauvoo, Alabama’s Chris Hand, who ran a quicker but loosing 6.26 second pass after he was disqualified for hitting a cone at the end of the race track.

“In this game you take wins however you can get them” said Greg Pollard. “We had some clutch issues coming off of our last event in Grand Bend so we wanted to sneak up on the tune-up over the course of this event. Our team, Aaron Langford, Jack Learment and Ron Jury, Stephanie Pollard, Bonnie Campbell and Jen Jury really worked hard this weekend. It was also great to have our Kiwi friend, Richard Maunder at Indy with us to share our win, Richard was a big help getting the bike on the track in 2008.”

The entire Pollard team would like to extend special congratulations to Keith Lynn, Roger and Leonard for their awesome 6.43 runs at Indy during this event. They are great guys and certainly deserve to be the world’s quickest turbo funnybike.

Looking forward to the team’s next event Greg had this to say; “The fact that we were able to run a 6.04 in the final round proves that we’ve found our problem and are now set to put on a great show for our hometown fans when we race at the Grand Bend Motorplex over the Labour Day Weekend.”

The next stop for the team will be the Labour Day Weekend “Night of Nitro” show at the Grand Bend Motorplex in Grand Bend, Ontario where they will make exhibition passes for the large crowds that attend this annual event. About Pollard NitroSports

On the track since the mid 80’s Geoff Pollard has piloted several types of racing motorcycle to event championships and national elapsed time and speed records. In 1993 Pollard Racing Canada was formed with the introduction of the teams Alcohol Funny Bike. In 1999 Geoff scored a Pro Star national event victory and became the first Canadian to eclipse 200 miles per hour on a motorcycle. After a close battle for the national point’s championship in 2000 the Pollard’s passion to go faster led them to the Top Fuel Motorcycle division. The team excelled out of the gate in 2005 setting the Canadian national record for the class and winning another Pro Star national event making Geoff the first rider in Pro Star history to win an event in Funny Bike and Top Fuel competition.

The Pollard NitroSports team debuted a new Top Fuel Motorcycle in 2008 and proceeded to reset both ends of the Canadian record with a 6.08 elapsed time, 231 miles per hour blast in November of that same year. The team entered 2009 with one goal in mind, eclipse the six second barrier and become the first Canadian team to do so, thus etching their names in the record books even further. They came one step closer to that goal when they set a new Canadian record running a 6.04 second elapsed time at more than 232 miles per hour en route to their third national event win at the AMA Pingel Thunder Nationals in August, 2009.
